You Can't Keep A Good Man Down........

As regular perusers of these pages will be aware, I have not been overly exerting myself on the work front of late…... where “of late”, ought perhaps to read “for more or less the last three years”.

This incorrigible state of laxity is set to come to and end very soon however, as shock of all shocks….. I have only gone and got a job!

On May 1st I will start work as an administrator for a company near here, who report on environmental issues for the construction industry.

An alarm clock and a lunch box need to be acquired, as do a couple of new suits and a shiny corporate smile.

This startling development is certainly not before time. The first (planned) year of ease and indolence was very nice, the second not sooooo bad, as I was focussed on the house move, and still had expectations of a swift return to work..... Even if my finances did disappear down the Swanee in the meanwhile.

These last eight months of niggling injury and frustratingly slow recovery though, have been tortuous, so I am mightily relieved to have finally turned a corner…... Knowing verbatim, the script of every single episode of “Homes Under The Hammer” and “To Buy Or Not To Buy” is no doubt a singular achievement, but compares poorly against having an income I find.

My new employers are based in a delightful rural setting, a mere 15 minutes drive away, and on a route that also has one other advantage ……

It passes an allotment site.

Hmmmmmm……………………

ah ah ah you'll get sucked into that allotment site, I can see it coming. I am magnetic to a number of things when out on country walks - fields with farm animals in (i spend many walks with hands covered in dried cow/sheep/horse drool), vegetable gardens, lavendar bushes, blackberry bushes from August to September and often tiny village cafés with alluring promises of hot chocolate during a freezing cold nature walk...ah the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak...
Enjoy the new job, welcome back to the rat race!

Wahey! I hope the new job brings fulfilment, or at the very least a welcome bit of swag to spend on beer and cat repellant. Better get yerself on the waiting list for that allotment site ...

Best of luck with the new job. Sorry to hear you went to Daventry recently though ;>) I was born and bred there before escaping up here, but still have to go back to visit the parents now and again!

Cheers Rob.

I don't think Dav is so bad though.... The Barbarian lives just off the high street (admittedly there are parts of the 'burbs to make a Sarejevean shudder) and has two supermarkets, two chinese, an indian,a chippy, two bookies and about seven pubs, all within a 3 minute walk.

I've been to worse towns.

On congratulations on the pasttime funder, I mean Job. Ok, you have a few days to focus on the job but by Thursday, we want a report on that allotment. Personally, I'd be stopping by Monday just to honor the day well completed. That or buying th missing office supplies to celebrate that still clean desk. Enjoy!
