The Crack of Leather on Willow....
For any Americans reading, the above title refers not to any unusual sexual fetish of mine, but the timeless and beautiful game of cricket.(A leather ball about 2/3rds the size of a baseball, but rock hard, and bats made of English Willow.)
The fielding side here are Southborough Cricket Club, who's small but quite locally famous ground my trudge passed by. No idea who the batting visitors are, but as I emerged from the wood, and took the first of these pictures, the batsman was out, caught at deep backward square (That's square of the wicket and...oh never mind... most English people don't understand the game either.... I say "game", but it's more like a religion. One where you stop every few hours for meals .)
All in all, not a bad day out. I wore off some energy, played at photography, got caught by the sun, and only spent £2.50 all day.
Spingtime in England is certainly to be recommended.

Aahh! England, village greens, strawberries and cream, Wimbledon, red buses, hessian undergarments, Oh Nanny!
Great photos - and thanks to cricket I met the loml - hope you get a buyer soon.
Positive thinking - your time will come soon
Cricket is just a great excuse for old men to sit in the sun all day, you would proberly find the same people sitting in the library during the Winter. Not bad spending £2.50 all day and some great photos.
Cheers Mark
Do you mind if I link to you from my page to make it easier to check on what you are up to? Good luck with the house etc and hope to see you 'digging for victory' in the not too distant future.
All the best, Mike
Not at all Mike - Link away!
Thanks for the tours! I had hoped to visit England and other places this summer, but as I'm heading off to family matters in Kansas, I'll try another time. So these excusions of yours are my time out too. Here's hoping your buyer is out on the hunt now and will soon find you. I can hardly wait to see that next garden!
Good to see your lovely photos- but I think East Sussex can give Kent a run for it's money- but then I'm a Sussex Girl born & bred so slightly biased! I hope you find a buyer soon and are able to find somewhere new. SWD
Thanks for the link on Dig for Victory. Cricket gets me all wistful - my cousin used to play county cricket and TMS always reminds me of my childhood when we listened to it in the car on the way to some UK holiday destination. I still enjoy listening to it now.
